2022 Indian Premier League Team Preview – Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals have certainly been quite a competitive as a unit in the previous three editions of Indian Premier League. Last year, Delhi Capitals qualified for the finals of Indian Premier League. They were beaten by Kolkata Knight Riders in the Qualifier 2 game played at Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

Revamped Delhi Capitals, will be keen to make a serious dash for the IPL trophy this season.

For the coming season, Delhi Capitals did a lot of spending during 2022 IPL auction as Shardul Thakur, David Warner, Rovman Powell, Mustafizur Rahman and Mitchell Marsh are prominent signings for this year’s competition. Delhi has managed to reach the playoffs of the competition on six occasions i.e. (2008, 2009, 2012, 2019, 2020 and 2021).

Rishabh Pant, Prithvi Shaw, Axar Patel and Anrich Nortje were the premier players retained by Delhi Capitals for this year’s Indian Premier League.

Wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant will lead Delhi Capitals for the 15^th edition of the Indian Premier League. Indian medium-pacer Shardul Thakur was bought by Delhi for Rs 10.75 crore during 2021 IPL Auction. Besides Thakur, Australian opener David Warner was signed for a fee of 6.25 crore for the coming edition of the league.

Opener Prithvi Shaw will be keen to show decent form with the bat for Delhi Capitals this season. Last year, Shaw reached all-time high with the bat in the IPL and accumulated 479 runs in 15 games with a strike rate of 159.13 for Delhi Capitals. Besides Shaw, Dhawan and Pant also managed to score well over 400 runs for Delhi Capitals.

India’s Axar Patel and Australia’s Mitchell Marsh are quality all-rounders included in their overall squad for the 15^th edition of Indian Premier Leaguer.

After showing decent form with the bat this season, wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant will be looking to lead from the front this season.

Delhi have made interesting choices on the bowling front as Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav and Mustafizur Rahman were signed by the franchise for the 15th edition of Indian Premier League.

Anrich Nortje and Axar Patel are two premier bowlers for the franchise and with the addition of Shardul Thakur, and Mustafizur Rahman, it makes them one of decent bowling attacks in the league.

Axar Patel, Lalit Yadav and Kuldeep Yadav are premier spinners for the franchise. Last year, Left-arm orthodox spinner Axar Patel bowled  well in the previous edition of the league for Delhi Capitals and will look to continue his decent form with the ball in hand for the franchise in the coming season.

Players to watch out for

Pacer Anrich Nortje will be the player to watch out for in the bowling department. He has been exceptional for South Africa at the international level across all three formats. Rabada only played just eight games for Delhi last season and would be keen to play a more pro-active role with the ball in this year’s competition..

With Dhawan and Shreyas leaving the franchise this season, Pant is the only bankable performer for Delhi Capitals this season. Left-hander had a decent outing with the bat for Delhi last season. The franchise will be hoping that Pant can consistently produce decent scores for Capitals this season.
