Bangladesh tour to New Zealand 2021[Preview]

Bangladesh is scheduled to tour New Zealand in the month of January to play two-match Test series, starting from 1st January at The Mount Maunganui. The home side announced their squad for the two-match series. Kane Williamson has been rested for the home series as wicket-keeper batsman Tom Latham will lead the side.

Will Young, Daryl Mitchell, Tom Blundell, Devon Conway, Ross Taylor and Henry Nicholls are premier players in the batting department. In the absence of Kane Williamson, the side will be relying on the experienced players like Henry Nicholls, Ross Taylor and Tom Latham to deliver the bulk of the runs.

Since 1st Jan 2021, Tom Latham has done well for New Zealand in the red-ball cricket. In 12 matches played, Latham has accumulated 665 runs at an average of 35.00 with six half-centuries to his name.

In this same period, middle-order batsman Henry Nicholls has shown consistency with the bat for New Zealand. Left-hander has accumulated 607 runs at an average of 40.46 with two centuries and two half-centuries to his name.

The team management will be hoping that the likes of Nicholls and Latham to deliver notable scores in this two-match Test series against Bangladesh.

In the bowling department, the side will be relying on the pacer Trent Boult, Neil Wagner, Tim Southee, Kyle Jamieson and Matt Henry to provide crucial breakthroughs in this two-match Test series.

Since 1st Jan 2021, Kyle Jamieson has topped the bowling charts along with Tim Southee. Pacer Kyle Jamieson has claimed 52 wickets at an average of 16.03, whereas Tim Southee has taken 52 wickets at an average of 19.75.

After becoming the first New Zealand bowler to take all ten wickets in an innings, Ajaz Patel has failed to find a place in the Test squad for Bangladesh series.

On the other hand, Bangladesh have announced their Test squad for the tour of New Zealand. Fazle Mahmud, Shoriful Islam and Syed Khaled Ahmed are new players named in the Test squad while Saif Hasan has been dropped from the Test setup.

In the absence of Tamim Iqbal and uncertainty over Shakib Al Hasan, the onus will be depending on the likes of Mushfiqur Rahim, Liton Das, Najmul Shanto and Mominul Haque to deliver notable scores in this fixture.

Since 1st Jan 2021, wicket-keeper batsman Liton Das has topped the batting charts for Bangladesh in the five-day format. In nine matches played, Liton Das has accumulated 709 runs at an average of 47.26 with one century and six half-centuries. He will be keen to do well in this two-match Test series against Bangladesh.

Besides Liton Das, Captain Mominul Haque has done a decent job with the bat for Bangladesh. In nine Test matches, Mominul Haque has scored 706 runs at an average of 49.13 with three centuries and one half-centuries.]

In the bowling department, the side will be relying on likes of Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam and Abu Jayed to deliver crucial breakthroughs. Taijul Islam and Mehidy Hasan Miraaz are two premier spinners for Bangladesh for this two-match Test series.

Since 1st Jan 2021, Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam has been a premier performer for Bangladesh in Test cricket. In eight matches played, Taijul Islam has claimed 38 wickets at an average of 32.15 with two five-wicket hauls to his name.

The opening game of the Test series will be played at Mount Maunganui from 1st January. The second and final game will be played at The Hagley Oval in Christchurch from 9th January. The home side will be keen to continue their dominance in red-ball cricket.
