Bangladesh tour to South Africa 2022 [Preview]
Bangladesh is scheduled to tour South Africa in the month of March and April to play three-match ODI series followed by two Tests, starting from 18th March at Centurion. The hosts have announced their 16- man squad for limited-overs series against Bangladesh.
Captain Temba Bavuma will lead the side for the three-match ODI series. Zubayr Hamza and Wayne Parnell have retained in the ODI squad for this series.
For South Africa, the onus will be on the experienced players like Aiden Markram, Captain Temba Bavuma, Rassie van der Dussen and wicket-keeper Quinton de Kock to deliver big scores in this three-match one-day series.
Since March 2020, opener Janneman Malan has been leading run-scorer for South Africa limited-overs cricket. The right-hander has accumulated 607 runs at an average of 67.44 with two centuries and three half-centuries to his name.
Besides Elgar, Quinton de Kock, Rassie van der Dussen and Temba Bavuma has shown decent form for Proteas in the one-day format. Kyle Verreynne and Dwaine Pretorius are expected to retain their places in the XI for this ODI series.
In the bowling department, the side will be relying on premier pacers like Kagiso Rabada, Wayne Parnell, Dwaine Pretorius and Lungi Ngidi to deliver crucial breakthroughs.
Keshav Maharaj and Tabraiz Shamsi are two spinners named in the ODI squad. Andile Phehlukwayo and Marco Jensen are other pace options for South Africa for this three-match Test series.
On the other hand, Bangladesh will be looking to win their maiden ODI and Test series in South Africa. After doing exceedingly well in New Zealand, Bangla Tigers be looking to deliver a strong show with bat and ball against South Africa.
Anrich Nortje is set to miss the three-match ODI series and two-match Test Series against Bangladesh. After not being picked in the IPL auction, selectors decided to pick all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan for the tour of South Africa. The selectors have decided to retain the same group of players that featured for Bangladesh in the Test series against New Zealand.
Liton Das, Tamim Iqbal, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah Riyad are the premier batting options for Bangladesh in the three-match ODI series.
Since March 2020, Mushfiqur Rahim has shown incredible consistency with the bat in the one-day format. In 12 matches, Rahim has accumulated 503 runs at an average of 50.30 with one century and three fifties to his name.
In the bowling department, the side will be relying on the likes of Mustafizur Rahman, Mehidy Hasan Miraaz, and Shoriful Islam, to deliver timely breakthroughs.
The opening game of the ODI series will be played at SuperSport Park in Centurion, starting from 18th March. The second game of the one-day series will be played at The Wanderers in Johannesburg at 20th March. The third and final game of the ODI series will be played at Centurion on 23rd March.
The culmination of the one-day series will see both teams lock horns in a two-match Test series. The first match of the Test series will be played at Kingsmead in Durban from 31st March. The second and final game will be played at St Georges Park, Port Elizabeth from 8th April to conclude the tour.
