Bangladesh tour of West Indies, 2018 [Preview]
Bangladesh is all set to tour West Indies to play 2 Tests, 3 ODIs, and 3 T20Is. The tour is set to begin from 4th July as Bangladesh will take on West Indies in the first game of the series at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, Antigua. All-rounder Shakib Al-Hasan will lead the side for the Test series.
The visitors will be keen to turn things after losing their previous series against Sri Lanka. The side has struggled since 2017 and has not been able to produce the sort of consistency that made them scale new heights after 2015 Cricket World Cup.
Opener Tamim Iqbal has struggled in the format and has scored 640 runs in 21 innings at an average of 30.47 with six half-centuries to his name. Tamim will certainly improve his performances if Bangladesh wants to put up a strong fight against West Indies in the Caribbean.
Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan have been two bankable players in the five-day format for Bangladesh. Rahim has topped the batting charts for Bangladesh since Jan 2017. The wicket-keeper batsman has amassed 886 runs in 21 innings at an average of 46.63 with two centuries to his name.
Shakib has scored 645 runs in 15 innings at an average of 44.33 with a career-best score of 217 runs against New Zealand. The all-rounder also has chipped with 29 wickets at an average of 33.37 with the ball in hand.
Mustafizur Rahman and Mehedi Hasan Miraaz are premier bowlers for Bangladesh in the longer format of the game. Mominul-Haque, Mahmudullah, and Sabbir Rahman are also good players for Bangladesh that the make up the batting lineup.
On the other hand, West Indies recently did well against Sri Lanka at home. West Indies Captain Jason Holder will be confident of winning this series. Shai Hope has been the premier batsman for the side since 2017. He has chipped in with crucial performances and will once again be crucial if West Indies wants to dominate the proceedings against Bangladesh at home.
Hope has amassed 887 runs in 25 innings at an average of 38.56 with two centuries to his name. Roston Chase and Kraigg Brathwaite are the two players that have been consistent for the side for past couple of years. Wicket-keeper Shane Dowrich and Jason Holder have put in crucial performances for West Indies during this period.
Pacer Shannon Gabriel has quickly risen among the ranks to become premier bowler for West Indies in Test cricket. Gabriel has topped the bowling charts for West Indies since April 2017. He has taken 54 wickets in 13 games at an average of 23.88 with three five-fors to his name. Gabriel has delivered match-winning performances against teams like Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
Kemar Roach has also done exceedingly well for West Indies and formed a lethal new-ball combination with Shannon Gabriel. He has picked up 41 wickets in 11 games at an average of 22.58. Miguel Cummins, Devendra Bishoo also have done well for West Indies in Test cricket.
Bangladesh will first two-match Test series that will begin from 4th July as they take on West Indies at Antigua. The second and final game of the series will be played at Sabina Park, Jamaica.The conclusion of test series will see them play three-match one-day series against West Indies.
The first two games will be played at Guyana on 22nd and 26th July respectively. The third and final game of the series will be played at St Kitt. The one-day series will be played be followed by three-match T20I series that will begin from 1st August. The first game will be played at St Kitts and the remaining two games will be played at Central Broward Regional Park Stadium, Lauderhill Florida.
