Bangladesh tour to Zimbabwe 2022 [Preview]
Bangladesh is scheduled to tour Zimbabwe to play three T20Is and three ODIs, starting from 30th July at Harare Sports Club in Harare.
Hosts have not yet announced their ODI and T20I squads for the upcoming home series against Bangladesh. Craig Ervine is expected to lead Zimbabwe for the T20I and ODI series. On the other hand, Bangladesh have named their T20I and ODI squads for the upcoming tour of Zimbabwe.
All-rounder Shakib Al Hasan will not be available for the tour of Zimbabwe due to personal reasons. Tamim Iqbal will lead the side for the three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe. After missing the previous series in the Caribbean, wicket-keeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim makes a return to the ODI squad for the upcoming series against Zimbabwe.
Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mahmudullah Riyad, Anamul Haque, Mosaddek Hossain and Nurul Hasan have been retained in the ODI squad for the three-match series against Zimbabwe.
Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Hasan Mahmud and Shoriful Islam are prominent pacers named in the limited-overs squad for the tour of Zimbabwe. Mosaddek Hossain, Taijul Islam, Nasum Ahmed, Mehidy Hasan, Afif Hossain and Mahmudullah are spin bowling options for Bangladesh for this ODI series.
For the T20I series, opener Munim Shahriar, all-rounder Mahedi Hasan, pacer Hasan Mahmud have been named in the squad for Zimbabwe series. Uncapped wicket-keeper Pervaiz Hossain Emon have earned their maiden call-up to the national squad.
For the T20I series, the onus will be on the likes of Najmul Hossain Shanto, Liton Das, Afif Hossain, Mosaddek Hossain and Nurul Hasan to do the bulk of the scoring.
Since July 2021, Afif Hossain has shown decent form with the bat for Bangladesh in the T20 format. In 28 T20Is played, Afif has scored 451 runs with one half-century to his name. Besides Afif, Liton Das has accumulated 334 runs in 18 innings with a strike rate of 104.37.
In the bowling department, the onus will be on the likes of Mustafizur Rahman, Shoriful Islam, Mahedi Hasan, and Nasum Ahmed to provide crucial breakthroughs.
Since July 2021, left-arm pacer, Mustafizur Rahman, has shown excellent form for Bangladesh in the 20-over format. In 23 T20Is played, Mustafizur has claimed 26 wickets at an average of 19.38 with two four-fors to his name.
Besides Mustafizur Rahman, left-arm orthodox spinner Nasum Ahmed has impressive numbers for Bangladesh in the past 12 months. In 19 T20Is played, Nasum Ahmed has taken 26 wickets at an average of 14.46.
On the other hand, Zimbabwe will be keen to start their home season on a good note. In the batting department, the onus will be on the likes of Wesley Madhevere, Craig Ervine, Sikandar Raza, Sean Williams and Regis Chakabva to deliver the bulk of the runs.
Since July 2021, Wesley Madhevere has shown decent form for Zimbabwe in the T20 format. In 22 T20Is played for Zimbabwe, Madhevere has scored 491 runs at an average of 23.38 with four half-centuries to his name.
Besides Wesley Madhevere, Zimbabwe captain Craig Ervine has scored 438 runs at an average of 24.33 with two fifties to his name.
In the bowling department, the onus will be on the likes of Luke Jongwe, T Chatara, Ryan Burl and Wellington Masakadza to deliver timely breakthroughs.
Since July 2021, medium-pacer Luke Jongwe has topped the bowling charts for Zimbabwe in the T20 format. In 23 T20Is played, Jongwe has taken 29 wickets at an average of 19.31.
All the three T20Is will be played at Harare Sports Club in Harare on 30th July, 31st July and 2nd August. After conclusion of the T20I series, the three-match ODI series will be played at Harare on 5th, 7th and 10th August respectively.
