England tour to South Africa 2020 [Preview]
England is scheduled to tour South Africa in the month of November and December to play three T20Is followed by three ODIs. Eoin Morgan will lead the side for both T20Is and ODIs. On the other hand, South Africa will be looking to kick-start their home season on a positive note.
England have announced their full-strength squad in order to make adequate preparations for next year’s World Cup. All-rounder Ben Stokes, pacer Jofra Archer and Chris Jordan have been named in the England’s T20I squad.
Dawid Malan and Chris Jordan have been named only in the T20I squad, while Chris Woakes, Olly Stone, Lewis Gregory and Liam Livingstone have been included in limited-overs squad.
The three-match T20I series between South Africa and England is scheduled to start from 27th November. The opening game of the T20I series will be played at Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town. The second game will be played at Bolan Park in Paarl on 29th November. The third and final game will be once gain hosted by Newlands on 1st December.
Host South Africa have announced their T20I and ODI squads for the upcoming home series against England. Wicket-keeper batsman Quinton de Kock will lead the side in both the formats.
Due to Dale Steyn being unavailable for selection, uncapped pacer Glenton Stuurman has been named in both the squads. Lutho Sipamla, Bjorn Fortuin, Janneman Malan, Kyle Verreynne and Pite von Biljon have been named in the ODI and T20I squads for England series.
Former ODI captain Faf du Plessis has been named in both the squads for the upcoming home series. In this year’s Indian Premier League, Faf du Plessis showed excellent form with the bat for Chennai Super Kings and finished the competition with 449 runs in 13 innings at an average of 40.82.
South Africa will be pleased with the way likes of Quinton de Kock, Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje performed in this year’s Indian Premier League. Quinton de Kock has accumulated close to 500 runs for Mumbai Indians so far this season.
Spearhead Kagiso Rabada has put in impressive bowling performances for the second in a row in the Indian Premier League. In 15 matches, Kagiso Rabada claimed 25 wickets at an average of 19.48. Rookie pacer Anrich Nortje has done exceedingly well for Delhi Capitals this season and claimed 20 wickets at an average of 22.55.
On the other hand, England players have competitive cricket in the past two months and have participated in the Indian Premier League. England Captain Eoin Morgan will be hoping that the side can produce their best cricket against South Africa.
In the batting department, the onus will be on the opening pair of Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow to deliver quick runs in the initial Powerplay overs. With Eoin Morgan, Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler in the middle-order, England will be hoping that they can launch an onslaught against the opposition bowlers in the final phase of the innings.
In the bowling department, the side will be depending on likes of Jofra Archer, Chris Woakes and Adil Rashid to make crucial breakthroughs.
