England tour to West Indies 2022 [Preview]
England is set to tour West Indies for a three-match Test series, starting from 8th March at St Vivian Rchards in Antigua.
Host West Indies have yet to announce their Test squad for the England series. Opener Kraigg Brathwaite will be hoping that the side can deliver the goods with bat and ball in this home series.
On the other hand, England have named their 16-member squad for the upcoming three-match Test series against West Indies. Captain Joe Root will be hoping that the side can adjust to the conditions and put on a decent show against West Indies in the three-match Test series.
Matthew Fisher, Matthew Parkinson, Saqib Mahmood and batsman Alex Lees are two uncapped players included in Test squad for the tour of West Indies. Surprisingly, veteran pace duo of James Anderson and Stuart Broad have not been included in the Test squad for the tour of Caribbean.
In the batting department, the onus will be on the likes of Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow, Zak Crawley, Ben Stokes and Ollie Pope to deliver the bulk of the runs.
Since May 2020, Joe Root has topped the batting charts for England in the five-day format. In 20 Test matches played for England, Root has accumulated 2001 runs at an average of 52.65 with six centuries and five half-centuries to his name.
Besides Root, Ben Stokes has shown decent form with the bat and scored 811 runs at an average of 33.79.
In the bowling department, the onus will be on the likes of Ollie Robinson, Mark Wood, Chris Woakes Saqib Mahmood and Jack Leach to provide crucial breakthroughs.
Matthew Fisher and Matthew Parkinson are other bowling options for England for this three-match Test series against West Indies.
On the other hand, West Indies will be looking to pick an experienced squad for this important series. Captain Kraigg Brathwaite will be hoping that the side can show discipline in all three departments.
In the batting department, the onus will be on the likes of Kraigg Brathwaite, Nkrumah Bonner, Kyle Mayers and Jermaine Blackwood to deliver timely breakthroughs.
Since May 2020, Jermaine Blackwood was the standout performer for West Indies in Test cricket. In 15 Tests played, Blackwood has accumulated 915 runs at an average of 30.50 with one century and five half-centuries to his name.
Besides Blackwood, Captain Kraigg Brathwaite has shown decent form with the bat. He has accumulated 906 runs in 15 Tests at an average of 30.20 with one century and six half-centuries to his name.
All-rounder Roston Chase and opener Shai Hope have been dropped from the Test squad. John Campbell has made a comeback to the Test squad. Uncapped fast bowler Anderson Phillip has earned their maiden call-up to the national side.
All-rounder Rakheem Cornwall, Jeremy Solozano and spinner Jomel Warrican have failed to find a place in the Test squad for this three-match series.
In the bowling department, the onus will be on the likes of Alzarri Joseph, Kemar Roach and Jayden Seales to deliver timely breakthroughs.
