India will be looking to extend their lead in ICC Test Championship when they take on Bangladesh in the two-match Test series

After the conclusion of the T20I series, Bangladesh will be looking to take on India in the two-match Test series that starts from 14th November. The visitors will come into the series as underdogs while India will start as outright favorites after completing a whitewash over South Africa in three-match series.

The history is clearly is in favor of India as hosts have managed to win seven matches out of nine played against Bangladesh in Test cricket. Newly appointed Captain Mominul Haque will be looking to break their winning streak and spring a surprise against India. The side will be hoping that premier players in the squad can raise their game and deliver big performances for India.

Let’s take a look at five Indian players that will be looking to make an impact with bat and ball in the two-match Test series against Bangladesh.

Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma certainly delivered the goods with the bat in the three-match Test series against South Africa. He clearly good at his ease at the top of the innings and produced career-best numbers in the Test series played against South Africa. Sharma scored 529 runs in 3 Test matches at an average of 132.25 with three centuries to his name.

The 32-year old has been in excellent form with the bat for India so far this season. In 12 Test matches played at home, Sharma has accumulated 1298 runs at an average of 99.84 with a strike rate of 69.67. He has scored six centuries and five half-centuries for India in Test matches played in India.

The opening batsman will certainly be keen to produce big runs for India in the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh.

Virat Kohli

India’s premier batsman will be deliver runs for the side in the two-match Test series against Bangladesh. So far this year, Virat Kohli has accumulated 735 runs in 9 Test matches at an average of 56.53 with two centuries to his name. In the recently concluded Test series against South Africa, Kohli once again delivered big runs for India. He scored unbeaten double century to help India clinch the Test series against South Africa at Pune.

He will be keen to continue his excellent form with the bat in this Two-match series.

Umesh Yadav

He is certainly proved to be designated enforcer for India in the recent Test series played against South Africa. Umesh Yadav certainly bowled with a lot of aggression and used short balls to good effect against South Africa’s batting lineup. The right arm quick has delivered impressive numbers on docile pitches in India. In 26 Test matches played in India, Yadav has claimed 84 wickets at an average of 25.90. In the recently concluded series against South Africa, Yadav picked up 11 wickets at an average of 12.18 with a strike rate of 21.2.

With Jaspreet Bumrah not available for this series, Yadav will be looking to make a strong impression with the new-ball in the two-match series against Bangladesh. 

Mayank Agarwal

The 28-year old scored heavily for India in the opening slot in a short span of time in Test cricket. Mayank Agarwal has been marked as a special talent and will be keen to maintain his consistency in red-ball cricket.

Agarwal performed exceedingly well in the three-match series against South Africa. The right-handed batsman accumulated 340 runs in three games at an average of 85.00 with two centuries to his name.

He seems to have excellent temperament and technique and would be keen to do well against Bangladesh in this home series.

Mohammad Shami

The 29-year old has shown excellent form with the new-ball in red-ball cricket for India. Since November 2017, Shami has claimed 80 wickets in 20 Test matches at an average of 24.38. He has picked up three five-wicket hauls for India during this period.

He is an exceptional bowler with the old ball and will be keen to exploit conditions in venues like Indore and Kolkata. In the recently concluded series against South Africa, Shami claimed 13 wickets at an average of 14.76.
