India vs South Africa 2019: Top 4 players to watch out for South Africa in the Test series

South Africa is all set to tour to play three T20s followed by Three Test matches in the month of September and October. Faf du Plessis’ men will be looking to do well in the upcoming three-match series against India. The opening game of the Test series will be played at Dr. Y.S Rajasekhara Reddy ADC- VDCA stadium in Visakhapatnam.

For the visitors, we will be looking to watch out for players who can play a big role against India in the upcoming Test series.

Players to watch out for:

Faf du Plessis

Test Captain Faf du Plessis will be looking to lead from the front with the bat in this three-match Test series. The 35-year old will be looking to make amends for his poor record in India in Test cricket. On his last trip to India, du Plessis struggled to produce runs on pitches that a fair amount of assistance to the spinners. He could only score 60 runs in 4 matches at an average of 8.57.

The middle-order batsman will be make adequate preparations for the three-match series against India. Since September 2017, Du Plessis has been a consistent performer for South Africa in Test cricket. He has accumulated 1011 runs in 15 Test matches at an average of 42.12 with three centuries to his name.

Since past 12 months, Du Plessis has delivered notable scores for the side on regular basis. South Africa will be optimistic that du Plessis can deliver big runs in this Test series.

Dean Elgar

South Africa’s opening batsman will be looking to find form with the bat in this Test series. Since past 12 months, Elgar has struggled to produce big runs for the side in the five-day format. Left-hander is a key member of South Africa’ Test side and brings a lot of calmness to the top-order.

Dean Elgar has represented South Africa in 56 Test matches, where he has scored 3412 runs at an average of 38.77 with 11 centuries to his name. He also has scored 13 half-centuries for the side in Test cricket.

The 32-year old will be looking prepare well in order to counter the threat of spinners like Ravi Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav.

Keshav Maharaj

Left-arm orthodox spinner Keshav Maharaj is South Africa’s premier spinner and has time and again proved to be a real match-winner in five-day format. Maharaj has represented South Africa in 25 Test marches, where he has 94 wickets to his name at a strike-rate of 53.4 and with an average of 28.44, which included five five-wicket haul as well.

On pitches that will be conducive for spinners, Maharaj will certainly pose a significant threat to Indian batsmen in the upcoming three-match series.

Kagiso Rabada

He is certainly been the spearhead of the bowling attack for South Africa in Test cricket. The 24-year old failed to make impact in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 played in England and Wales. Pace bowler will be looking to make statement with the ball against India in the upcoming three-match Test series.

Since September 2017, Rabada has picked 89 wickets in 17 Test matches at an average of 19.05. He has picked four five-wicket hauls during this period. Due to his impressive in the past two years, team management will be hoping that he can deliver the goods for South Africa with the new-ball against India.
