Ireland tour to England 2020 [Preview]
Ireland is all set to tour England in the month of July and August to play three-match one-day series. The side kick-started their campaign with a practice game against England Lions played on 26th July at Rose Bowl in Southampton.
Ireland Captain Andrew Balbirnie can maintain their disciplines in all three departments. Uncapped batting all-rounder Curtis Campher has earned his maiden call-up to the national side. Batsman Harry Tector is all set to make his limited-overs debut for Ireland in the three-match series against England.
In the batting department, the onus will be on the experienced trio of Paul Stirling, Andrew Balbirnie and Kevin O’Brien to make notable contributions with the bat.
Since Jan 2018, opening batsman Paul Stirling has topped the batting charts for Ireland in one-day cricket. In 17 matches, Stirling has scored 775 runs at an average of 48.43 with one century and eight centuries to his name.
Willem Porterfield, Harry Tector and wicket-keeper Lorcan Tucker will need to make crucial scores for the side in this three-match one-day series.
All-rounder Kevin O’Brien has the ability to deliver match-winning performances for the side in the limited-overs format. In 17 matches, O’Brien has scored 374 runs with two half-centuries to his name.
In the bowling department, the side will be depending on the likes of Boyd Rankin, Barry McCarthy and Andy McBrine to make crucial breakthroughs with the new-ball.
On the other hand, England will be looking to start their home season on a positive note. All-rounder Ben Stokes, Test Captain Joe Root and Chris Woakes have been rested after their grueling Test series against West Indies.
In the batting department, the side will be relying on Jonny Bairstow, Jason Roy and Captain Eoin Morgan to deliver the bulk of the runs.
Opener Jonny Bairstow has shown excellent form with the bat in limited-overs format. Since Jan 2018, Bairstow has accumulated 906 runs in 25 ODI matches with three centuries and four half-centuries to his name.
His opening partner, Jason Roy, has not been far behind in terms of scoring runs in white-ball cricket. Since Jan 2018, Roy has scored 898 runs in 14 innings at an average of 64.14 with three centuries and six half-centuries to his name.
England Captain Eoin Morgan will be looking to make notable contributions with the bat in this three-match one-day series. In 24 ODI matches, Morgan has scored 811 runs at an average of 47.70 with 2 centuries and 5 half-centuries to his name.
In the bowling department, the side will be relying on the likes of Tom Curran, David Willey and Adil Rashid to make crucial breakthroughs.
Since Jan 2018, Leg-spinner Adil Rashid has performed exceedingly well for England in one-day cricket. Rashid has claimed 27 wickets in 22 matches at an average of 36.22 with one five-wicket haul to his name.
Pacer Saqib Mehmood, left-arm spinner Liam Dawson, off-spinner Moeen Ali and Left-arm pacer Reece Topley are other prominent bowling options for the side for this three-match one-day series.
All the three-match one-day series will be played at The Rose Bowl in Southampton on 30th July, 1st August and 4th August.
