New Zealand tour to Scotland 2022 [Preview]
New Zealand is scheduled to tour Scotland to play two T20Is followed by one-off ODI, starting from 27th June at Grange Cricket Club in Edinburgh.
Kylie Coetzer has resigned from ODI and T20I captaincy as Scotland Cricket Board has named Richie Berrington as new-white ball captain of the national cricket team. George Munsey, Michael Leask, Calum MacLeod, Alasdair Evans, Matthew Cross, Safyaan Sharif and Mark Watt have been named in the T20I and ODI for the upcoming home series against New Zealand.
On the other hand, New Zealand have announced their T20I, ODI squads for the upcoming tour of Scotland. Pacer Bean Sears, wicket-keeper batsman Dane Cleaver, Michael Rippon, Jacob Duffy, Michael Bracewell and Mark Chapman have been named in the ODI and T20I squads for the Scotland tour.
Since July 2021, Middle-order batsman, Richie Berrington has topped the batting charts for Scotland in the T20 format. In 13 matches played, Berrington has accumulated 447 runs at an average of 49.66 with four half-centuries to his name.
Besides Berrington, George Munsey has accumulated 283 runs in 13 innings at an average of 21.76 with two fifties to his name.
In the bowling department, the onus will be on the likes of Safyaan Sharif, Josh Davey and Mark Watt to deliver crucial breakthroughs.
Since July 2021, Safyaan Sharif has topped the bowling charts for Scotland in the T20 format. In 11 matches played, Safyaan has claimed 12 wickets at an average of 7.63. Besides Safyaan, left-arm orthodox spinner Mark Watt has claimed 11 wickets in 12 outings at an economy rate of 6.21.
On the other hand, New Zealand have plenty of experienced players in their setup for the tour of Scotland. Daryl Mitchell, Mitchell Santner, Martin Guptill, James Neesham, Glenn Phillips, Ish Sodhi, and Lockie Ferguson have played a lot of matches for New Zealand in the past 12 months.
Since July 2021, veteran opener Martin Guptill has topped the batting charts for New Zealand in the T20 format. In 13 matches played, Martin Guptill has scored 420 runs at an average of 32.30 with three fifties to his name.
Besides Guptill, Glenn Phillips has showcased decent form with the bat for New Zealand during this period. In 13 matches played, Phillips has scored 287 runs at an average of 35.87 with two half-centuries to his name.
In the batting department, the side will be on the likes of Martin Guptill, Finn Allen, Glenn Phillips, James Neesham, Mark Chapman and Daryl Mitchell to deliver the bulk of the runs.
For the T20I series, Michael Rippon, Mitchell Santner, Ish Sodhi, and Mark Chapman are slow bowling options for the visitors. Ben Sears, Blair Tickner, Lockie Ferguson, Jacob Duffy, James Neesham, and Daryl Mitchell are pace options for New Zealand for this two-match T20I series against Scotland.
Since July 2021, Leg-spinner Ish Sodhi has topped the bowling charts for New Zealand in the T20 format. In 12 T20Is played, Sodhi has claimed 16 wickets at an excellent economy rate of 7.85.
The New Zealand cricket team will kick-start their tour with a two-match T20I series that will be played at Grange Cricket Club in Edinburgh on 27th and 29th July respectively. The visitors will conclude the tour with one-off ODI game played at Edinburgh on 31st July.
