Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) organized a player’s draft for the upcoming fourth edition of Pakistan Super League that will begin in February next year. A total of 663 players were available for acquisition in the auction for the six franchises taking part in the competition next season.
Certainly, there is still ambiguity concerning Pakistan Super League as the sixth side is yet to be named for the competition. PCB terminated franchise Multan Sultans contract as owner Schon Properties failed to pay $5.2 million annual fee as stated in the terms and conditions related to franchises participating in the Pakistan Super League.
Lahore Qalandars prove to be biggest beneficiaries this time around as they bought South Africa’s AB De Villiers for the coming season. All-rounder Mohammad Hafeez was also picked up by Lahore after they released Umar Akmal ahead of players draft auction.
The sixth side picked up Steve Smith and Shahid Afridi for the coming season of PSL. All the six franchises could have three players in the platinum, diamond and gold categories. Five players can be picked in the silver category. Franchises also need to take emerging players from a given pool of players and also four reserve players in case of injuries or non-availability during the season.
