Sri Lanka tour to Australia 2019 [Preview]

Sri Lanka is scheduled to tour Australia in the month of October to play three-match T20Is. The visitors managed to surprise many with their clinical performances in the three-match T20I series played in Pakistan.

The likes of Kusal Perera, Niroshan Dickwella and Lasith Malinga will be included in the T20I squad for Australia. The experienced trio will be expected make their way into the setup after missing the previous trip to Pakistan due to personal reasons.

Captain Dasun Shanaka might be retained as the captain of the side after Sri Lanka inflicted 3-0 whitewash over Pakistan. All-rounder performed well in the three-match series against Pakistan and was responsible of producing quick runs in the later stages of the innings.

In the batting department, the side will be relying on the likes of Avishka Fernando, Kusal Perera and Danushka Gunathilaka to deliver the bulk of the runs.

Debutant Bhanuka Rajapaksa was the standout performer for Sri Lanka in the three-match T20I series against Pakistan. He accumulated 112 runs in 3 innings at an average of 37.33 with a strike rate of 143.59.

Besides Rajapaksa, Danushka Gunathilaka, Dasun Shanaka and Oshada Fernando also contributed well to the team’s cause in the three-match T20I series against Pakistan.

Opening batsman Danushka Gunathilaka also produced crucial scores for the side in the T20I series played against Pakistan. Left-hander will be looking to deliver consistent performances for the side in this upcoming three-match series against Australia.

Middle-order batsman comprising of Dasun Shanaka, Shehan Jayasuriya and Niroshan Dickwella will be looking to contribute with crucial runs for the side against Australia.

In the bowling department, the side will be depending on the likes of Lasith Malinga, Isuru Udana and Nuwan Pradeep to provide crucial breakthroughs.

Kasun Rajitha, Wanindu Hasaranga and Lahiru Kumara performed exceedingly well in the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka.

On the other hand, Australia have announced their 14-man squad for the upcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka. The selectors have tried to produce the strongest combination in order for the home side to make adequate preparation for the T20 World Cup that will be played next year.

Former Australian captain Steven Smith and opening batsman David Warner have made their comebacks for this home series.

Captain Aaron Finch has been a bankable performer for the side in the T20 format. Since October 2017, Finch has accumulated 539 runs in 19 matches at an average of 35.93 with a strike rate of 174.43, which included one century and two half-centuries.

Given his excellent numbers produced in the Ashes series, Steven Smith will be looking to make an impact for Australia in the shortest format of the game. He will be looking to produce consistent scores for the side in this three-match T20I series.

All-rounder Glenn Maxwell has been the standout performer for Australia in the T20 format since past two years. He has scored 675 runs in 21 matches at an average of 45.00, which includes two centuries and three half-centuries.

Apart from Maxwell, Ben McDermott and Ashton Turner have been included in the T20 squad for Sri Lanka series. The duo has shown excellent form with the bat in the Big Bash League played last year.

Alex Carey is the first choice wicket-keeper for the side for this series. Left-hander did produce impressive performances for Australia during the 2019 Cricket World Cup played in England and Wales. Carey will be looking to continue his good form with the bat in this series.

Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc make their comeback that certainly added more firepower to the bowling department.

Billy Stanlake has done an excellent job for Australia with the new-ball in the T20 format. Since October 2017, Stanlake has claimed 25 wickets in 16 matches at an average of 18.40 with an economy rate of 7.79.

Andrew Tye is another bowler who tends to provide crucial breakthroughs with his range of variations.

Left-arm orthodox spinner Ashton Agar and Leg-spinner Adam Zampa are two prominent spin options for the side for this three-match T20I series.

The opening game of the T20I series between Australia and Sri Lanka will be played on 27th October at the Adelaide Oval. The second T20I will be played at  The Gabba is Brisbane on 30th October. The third and final T20I will be played at Melbourne Cricket Ground on 1st November to conclude the series.
