West Indies tour to Pakistan 2021 ODI Series [Preview]
West Indies is scheduled to tour Pakistan in the month of June to play three ODI, starting from 8th June at Multan Cricket Stadium in Multan. Earlier, the ODI series got postponed due to number of reasons.
Pakistan have announced their ODI squads for the home series against Pakistan. Babar Azam will lead the side for the T20I and ODI series. Abdullah Shafique, wicket-keeper Mohammad Haris and pacer Shahnawaz Dahani are three uncapped players named in Pakistan’s ODI squad for the series against West Indies.
For the three-match ODI series, the selection committee has picked a full-strength squad against West Indies.
In the batting department, the side will be relying on the likes of Captain Babar Azam, opener Imam-Ul-Haq, wicket-keeper Mohammad Rizwan, Fakhar Zaman, and Khushdil Shah to do the bulk of the scoring.
In limited-overs format, Babar’s form has been nothing short of sensational this season. Since 1st Jun 2020, Babar Azam has topped the batting charts for Pakistan in the 50-over format. In 12 ODIs played this year, Azam has accumulated 902 runs at an average of 90.20 with five centuries and three half-centuries to his name.
Besides Azam, opener Imam-Ul-Haq has proven to be a consistent performer at the top of the innings. In 12 matches played, Imam has scored 598 runs at an average of 54.36 with two centuries and five half-centuries to his name.
The team management will be hoping that the likes of Babar Azam, Imam-Ul-Haq, Mohammad Rizwan and Fakhar Zaman can show excellent form in this three-match ODI series.
In the bowling department, the side will be depending on the likes of Mohammad Wasim Jr, and Shaheen Shah Afridi, Shadab Khan, and Haris Rauf to deliver timely breakthroughs in this one-day series.
Since 5th June 2020, Pacer Haris Rauf has shown excellent form for Pakistan in the 50-over format. In 11 matches played, Rauf has claimed 19 wickets at an economy rate of 5.75. Besides Rauf, Shaheen Shah Afridi has picked up 19 wickets in 11 outings at an average of 29.52.
With Kieron Pollard announcing his retirement from international cricket, Cricket West Indies have appointed Nicholas Pooran as new ODI captain of West Indies cricket team. Jason Holder has been rested for this series due to manage his workload. Batting all-rounder Keacy Carty, pacers Shermon Lewis, and Jayden Seales are three uncapped players named in West Indies ODI squad for the three-match ODI series.
In the batting department, the side will be relying on the likes of Shamarh Brooks, Shai Hope, Kyle Mayers, Rovman Powell, Nicholas Pooran and Brandon King to deliver notable scores in this fixture.
In the bowling department, the side will be relying on the likes of Alzarri Joseph, Akeal Hosein, Jayden Seales and Hayden Walsh Jr to deliver crucial breakthroughs.
Since 5th June 2020, left-arm orthodox spinner, Akeal Hosein, has topped the bowling charts for West Indies in limited-overs cricket. In 17 ODIs played for West Indies, Akeal Hosein has claimed 30 wickets at an average of 22.43.
The matches for the ODI series will be played at Multan Cricket Stadium in Multan on 8th, 10th and 12th June respectively.
